Chris Gilbert, board advisor based in Edmonton, Alberta
Board & Advisory Biography

Chris Gilbert

I work with mission-driven leaders to turn vision into a lasting impact.

Profile

Edmonton-based board candidate seeking director and advisory seats with Alberta nonprofits, charities and faith-based organizations. I've worked in web design and digital support since 1998, and for years ran a solo studio serving nonprofits, trades, faith communities, authors and small businesses across Alberta. I've structured my schedule to serve a board properly, not just attend.

I bring ten years of Rotary service across Red Deer East, Nisku-Leduc and Sherwood Park, mostly in club administration, communications and meeting technology. My wife and I also help run a Food Bank depot in northeast Edmonton through Freedom Centre Church.

What I Bring to the Table

Digital & data risk oversight

Can tell whether a website, donor data and communications are protected, and translate technical issues into risk language a board can act on.

Communications & reputation

Nearly three decades shaping how organizations present themselves. Helps a board weigh whether messaging matches practice.

Operating & financial literacy

Ran a service business end to end, quoting, delivery, finance and operations. Reads a budget as an operator.

Nonprofit & faith-sector fluency

Years serving charities, churches and heritage organizations. Understands how volunteer boards make decisions.

How I'd Serve

  • Active participation. I want a committee assignment in governance, risk, technology or communications, with real work between meetings.
  • Preparation. I read materials beforehand, send questions in advance when useful, and keep clear records of commitments.
  • Transparency on conflicts. I won't bid on or accept paid work from any organization while I serve on its board. Where a decision touches my field, I disclose and recuse.
  • Presence. In person across Edmonton and Alberta, and remotely for boards across Canada and the United States.

In plain terms: this would be my first seat on a governing board. Twenty-eight years working alongside boards as a vendor, plus club administration with the Rotary Club of Red Deer East, has given me a clear view of how boards decide, where information gaps form, and where blind spots sit.
